- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour the 9x13-inch baking pan.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Create three wells in the dry ingredient mixture. Pour the water in one well, vegetable oil in the second, and add the white vinegar and vanilla extract in the third.
Stir the mixture with a fork or whisk until all the ingredients are well incorporated. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool on a cooling rack.
- The cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Feel free to use plant-based oil for a vegan-friendly version of the cake.
